British Isles is a geographical term. The two largest island are Great Britain and Ireland. The British Isles are bounded on the south by the English Channel and the Straight of Dover, to the east there is the North Sea and to the West and North there is the Atlantic Ocean. British Isles cover over 300,000 square kilometers. Ireland and Great Britain cover the area which is 75% of the whole archipelago. Other import ant Island are: the Orkney Islands – off the northern coast of Scotland, the Shetland Islands which are further North of Scotland, or the Hebrides famous tourist destination. There are also three self-governing British dependencies: the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, consisting of the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guersney. Britain is sometimes called Albion or Britannia.

The highest mountain of the UK is Ben Nevis (1343 m), the longest river is Severn(365 km) and the biggest lake is Lough Neagh(388 sq km). The climate of the UK is generally temperate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream.
